Mindanao: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Honestly, this film is pretty heavy to take for this Holiday season but knowing that you have the right people on and off camera, there is nothing wrong in witnessing a masterpiece on the big screen this Christmas Day.

Mindanao easily is a front-runner in taking home a lot of awards for this MMFF season. It has a great Director in Brillante Mendozam and you also got a very reliable casts in Ms. Judy Ann Santos and Allen Dizon. What I also admired a lot in Mindanao is how they managed to insert a Filipino animated story in it. Giving the ethnic vibe throughout and made us feel the authenticity of the story.

It has an affecting family material boosted by Ms. Judy Ann Santos’ remarkable performance. Director Brillante Mendoza once again shows why he is a top-tier director in this era. He showed how to utilize the talent on the screen and provided the spark to a material to remember. Allen Dizon, on the other hand, continues to make his name known with his outstanding performances. Here he showed that he can keep a step with his co-star from start to finish.

Overall, Mindanao is a sweet little piece of art that is waiting on the corner to be unwrapped this Christmas Day. It just needs the perfect boost and a bit of appreciation so it can compete against the behemoths this festival.
