Still Human: Movie Review
We had the chance to attend the special screening of Still Human last Saturday, and until now, we were still moved with the film's remarkable material. It is really hard to find a film like this because it doesn't simply rely on big names or impressive visual designs in selling it to the viewers. The movie works not only because the story is genuinely written by heart but the stars also exerted the effort to make the film unforgettable at all costs.
Still Human is a well-crafted, and beautifully made film which you can get emotionally attached easily. You got a steady cast in Crisel Consunji and Anthony Wong, who delivers a heartfelt and memorable performance. I can't remember a tandem like this that caught my heart so deeply and also made me cry a lot of times by watching one film. You can really feel the authenticity of their characters, and you can sympathize on what they are actually going through. Many OFWs especially caregivers can relate to this film and will also help them to embrace their jobs and most importantly not give up on their precious dreams.
After watching the film, I was not surprised why the film swept the 2019 Hong Kong Film Awards. They all deserved the trophy and recognition, but I think the most important thing is to make the film more accessible to the public. A film like this needs to be screened here in the Philippines ASAP and hopefully be released in digital platforms like Netflix. I want to watch it again with my family and friends, so they experience the same feeling I've felt the first time I witnessed it on the big screen.
Overall, Still Human is a rare film that everyone needs to watch. It is highly recommendable as the entire film sells an authentic material about kindness, unconditional love and chasing about your dreams.
