Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (Movie Review)
By: Matt Suzara
The Fast and Furious franchise hasn't run out of gas and continues to pummel the adrenaline rush. But without Dominic Toretto and his family, can Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw fuel this installment?
Hobbs & Shaw sticks to the same formula from the previous Fast and Furious films. If you liked everything they made, and you've been a fan of this from the beginning, well it is safe to say that you'll be going to enjoy this. There are a lot of creative action sequences scattered around, but some of the best was already shown in the trailer. Still, It got a few more surprises left in the tank, including some cameo roles that will absolutely blow your mind away.
The stunts are fancy and a lot of them were astonishing to witness on the IMAX screen. They came up with crazier ideas to sustain the energy in a 136-minute run-time and what made it more different are the fact that they allow more comedy to operate in the material.
The Hobbs and Shaw connection between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is simply fun to watch. The way they deliver their curse lines was already worth the price of admission. You could never be wrong when you cast these two superstars and obviously they injected their charisma on the entire film allowing the audience to equally cheer for the both of them. Aside from these two proven stars, Vanessa Kirby left us with a huge smile on our faces. She was stunning in every scene, and I think she can handle her own action film, and we will be the one to line up to purchase tickets. The movie also has a decent villain in Idris Elba who reincarnate a Black Terminator.
Overall, Hobbs & Shaw pulls off a mindless popcorn amusement for everyone who fell in love to this epic franchise. It is branded with the sick and jaw dropping stunts you've usually expected in a trusted Fast and Furious series. Yes, the film might be ridiculously exaggerated at times, but you can't take away the fact that the film is really entertaining throughout.
Please do stay for three end credits!
