The Hows of Us: Movie Review
George (Kathryn Bernardo) and Primo (Daniel Padiila) are schoolmates who ended falling in love with each other. They graduated and envisioned a life together with sparkling dreams with Primo's OPM band playing across the world and George finishing her medicine school to be a great doctor. They inherited a house from their Tita Lola (Susan Africa) and started to live together, but things get rough and eventually everything falls apart. Will they give their hearts a second chance or will they finally give up to reach their dreams of being together?
Finally, we had the chance to watch The Hows of Us after the grueling weekend of sold-out screenings and long lines. It is safe to say that it is worth the wait as Kathniel once again delivers another remarkable story to remember.
The Hows of Us basically delivers a premise that anyone could easily relate into especially for people who have already been into relationships. All relationships starts with sweetness and romantic escapades before it reaches another level that will test your love for each other.
The film easily had our attention right from the start as Director Cathy Garcia Molina exactly knows how to mingle with your emotions and caress through your skin to feel all the romantic and fun moments before dropping the heart-pinching lines that could easily tear your feelings out. She knows the strengths of her lead stars and how to bring out the best out of them in every scene. There are just some cliched parts, but it was delivered neatly and charmingly looked good thanks to Kathniel's appeal and aptitude.
Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla took another step in their acting skills as they leveled-up once again and gets better in doing matured roles. Kathryn was simply audacious as there no question about her talent in acting and showed once again that she is a brilliant actress. She inflicts her lines like a lash as you can really feel the emotions when she throws her memorable dialogues. Daniel, on the other hand, still has that never-ending charismatic appeal and simply knows how to improvise to make a scene look really good. He plays out a comedy scene effortlessly and captivates everyone whenever he shifts into a serious or romantic tone. It is also a plus for the two that they are real-life sweethearts as their acting comes out very natural as you can really feel the thought and authenticity in their craft.
The supporting casts were a great mix of veterans and newbies that easily complimented the lead stars. Susan Africa and Jean Garcia are both reliable in their departments as they handled their roles really well. Darren Espanto's debut performance was okay and Juan Miguel Severo's comic relief duties had its moments.
Overall, The Hows of Us showed the maturity of both Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, which is really a great improvement to their acting arsenal. It is easily the best Kathniel film in their already impressive resume of films that made us all laugh and cry together inside the cinemas.
