Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Fans of the first film are rejoicing at the Block Screening of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again as the classic 2008 film finally spawn a sequel after a decade. This is one of those films that actually didn't need a decent plot in order to succeed in the box-office. Eventually, the sequel brings us back to the past as we learn what really happened to Donna (Meryl Streep) before, as the film transports us back and forth with the very talented Lily James playing the younger version of Sophie's mother.

Here we can enjoy two different timeline with exceptional casts playing the past and present version of each character. Lily James was simply proved that she is a phenomenal actress busting her groove and hitting those lively songs that are basically stuck on to my head until now. She was amazing in all cylinders and kept the audiences pumped through the beat whenever she starts to sing. Backing her up is the younger version of Tanya and Rosie, who is played by the wacky duo of Alexa Davis and Jessica Keenan. They imitated the moves and mannerisms of the veteran actresses in Christine Baranski and Julie Walters and flawlessly convinced us that they are indeed the younger version of the two.

You also got the three lads that played the fancy youth of the daddy trio who all tremendously did a magnificent job. The returning casts was basically an icing on the top of the cake as the entire film looked like that they are just having a big reunion while they celebrate and sing. There is no questioning the talent of Amanda Seyfried or the almost cameo inclusion of Meryl Streep. You have to love that the three reliable stars in Stellan Skarsgard, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth all managed to double up their efforts to entertain. Plus the addition of Cher as well as Andy Garcia also brings more color into the picture.

The story is more fluid than the first one and more fancy choreography will make you sing along with those ABBA hits. It is just infectious throughout and even make me dance while writing this review. Plus the last number was definitely one of the ages. It is just a feel-good movie, especially for the fans of the first one. There is no freaking way for you to miss this one in the theaters and maybe treat your parents to relieve some stress.

Overall, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, is a gentle reminder for everyone that we go to cinemas for us to get entertained. This film is the answer for that, and I can safely say that it is one of the most enjoyable films released this year.
