Pamilya Ordinaryo: Movie Review

By: Matt Suzara

Aries and Jane (Ronwaldo Martin and Hasmine Killip) are a homeless teenage couple with their new-born baby Arjan. They both don't know how to raise their child properly as Aries is a small-time thief in the city streets of Manila. However, things get a bit more problematic when Baby Arjan was stolen by a person named Ertha. who is pretending to be a generous stranger extending some help. Soon, the two starts their quest in finding their lost son in a seemingly impossible task like finding a needle in a haystack.

Pamilya Ordinaryo is tagged as one of the best films released last year and thanks to Cine Lokal, we are able to catch up a masterpiece we missed watching on the big screen. It is a painful film to watch, a dark tale on how life can be so cruel to some people like Aries and Jane. But even in a harsh theme, the film is still incorporated with humor that really helped the film. It lightens up the mood, especially for those scenes that you can't do anything but pity the characters. Director Eduardo Roy brilliantly tells the entire story and shows the harrowing truth of life in streets.

Ronwaldo Martin and Hasmine Killip are pretty solid throughout as both portrayed their characters with conviction. They remarkably made the audience embrace their roles and made us believe that they are not actors but a real couple experiencing the ill-fated reality. Their conversations and mannerisms seemed so effortless as the two came out strong in bringing out the raw talent in them.

Overall, Pamilya Ordinaryo is an extra-ordinary film. It is a gem that we rarely get in our cinemas where it is fueled with mesmerizing performances from it lead stars. It is really hard to digest the sad reality of poverty in our country and the film remarkably did its job to enlighten us about this.

Lakwatsera Lovers rates it 9 out of 10 stars
